Triangle

Depending on the type of dental procedure

  • After your restoration appointment, you can already eat and drink, as the filling is already hardened.
  • Sensitivity after anesthesia : to relieve it, you can take painkillers as discussed with your
dentist. The sensitivity will gradually decrease.
  • The filling may feel rough at first. With chewing, this will dissipate.
  • The tooth will be sensitive to hot and cold for a few weeks.
This is normal, because we have created a trauma to the tooth.
  • If after a week, when you only chew, the tooth is sensitive, contact us.
  • Before the anesthesia wears off, take pain medication as discussed with your dentist. There will be some sensitivity, this is normal. The tooth needs to heal from the infection.
  • Follow the prescription as discussed with your dentist.
  • If your tooth is temporarily filled (temporary filling), please eat on the opposite side until your next appointment.
  • To stop the bleeding, it is important to bite down on the sterile gauze you have been given. Change them every 20 minutes until the bleeding stops. The night of the surgery, sleep with your head elevated. It is normal to have some bleeding during the first 24 hours. If the bleeding persists and is abundant, take a wet tea bag and bite into it, as it contains a coagulant that will help stop the bleeding.
  • Starting the next day, rinse your mouth with a salt solution 4 times a day (1 teaspoon of salt mixed in 250 ml of warm water).
  • In case of pain, take the medication prescribed by your dentist.
  • Avoid any food that is too solid, too spicy or too hot, for the first 24 hours.
  • It is advisable to drink cold or lukewarm liquids.
  • During the first 24 hours, it is important to avoid spitting, drinking through a straw or smoking, to avoid removing the clot that will form.
  • It is normal that there may be some swelling and changes in the color of your tissues. If this happens, ice it for 15 minutes every hour.
  • If stitches were done, unless otherwise indicated, they will melt away after about 5 days.
  • For any other questions, you can contact our team at any time.
We will be able to reassure you.

The day of the surgery and the following 48 hours

Medication
:Follow dentist prescription.

Bleeding : Clench your teeth on sterile gauze for one hour. Do not touch the treated area with your fingers or tongue. Minimize physical activity 48 hours after surgery. It is normal for your saliva to be stained with blood for about 24 hours. If bleeding persists, continue to bite down on sterile gauze. If you notice heavy bleeding, avoid spitting and repeat the pressure for 15 minutes. However, if bleeding still persists, contact us.

Mouthwash : Do not rinse, spit, or suck for 48 hours after surgery. Gentle rinsing (do not spit, let the liquid drain into the sink) is recommended after meals to dislodge food, but only starting 24 hours after surgery. Do not brush your teeth in the area of the graft until the follow-up appointment. Do not use commercial toothpaste or mouthwash in the area of the graft until Dr. Seica has cleared it for you.

Smoking : Ideally, do not smoke for a minimum of 48 hours after surgery. Smoking will increase the healing time and the risk of complications.

Swelling : Slight post-operative swelling is normal for the first 3 days after surgery. This will gradually decrease. Apply ice to the face, opposite the operated area for about 20 minutes, then repeat as needed after a 20 minute break. A bruise may appear on the skin, do not worry, it will disappear within a week.

Diet : Any soft food that is not difficult to chew is allowed. Avoid foods with small grains or pits (e.g. rice, raspberries) or hard foods (e.g. nuts). Opt for soft, smooth foods such as pasta, soup, plain yogurt. Avoid hot liquids and spicy foods for the first 48 hours after the procedure. Also, do not drink through a straw, as this causes a sucking motion..

Avoid overexertion and all sports activities.

The following days

  • After meals, gently brush your teeth (without toothpaste) excluding the surgical area and stitches.
  • Do not floss in the graft area for the first 3 weeks, or until the dentiste allows you to do so.
  • Gently clean the surgical site with Chlorexhidine and a Q-tip, 3 to 4 times a day.
  • To rinse your mouth, use Chlorexhidine mouthwash (in the event you run out of mouthwash, use a mixture of ½ tsp. salt in a glass of warm water). Do not use commercial mouthwash.
  • The stitches are non-absorbable, but will be removed after 2 weeks. A bandage is put on the stitches to protect them.
This paste must remain in place for at least 24 hours and will be removed by the dentist or it will fall off by itself.

Important: The graft may become whitish in color. There is no need to worry as this is the normal healing process

  • There is no need to fast on the day of surgery.
  • Be sure to wear comfortable clothing.
  • Take your medication as prescribed by your dentist.
  • Do not touch the surgery site with your fingers or tongue.
  • It is normal for the saliva to be tinged with blood for about 24 hours.
  • When lying down or sleeping, place 1 or 2 pillows to keep your head slightly elevated.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a damp towel for 15 to 20 minutes every hour.
  • Restrict your diet to a soft diet (which does not require chewing).
  • Clean the surgical site with the mouthwash prescribed by your dentist (apply with a Q-tip 3-4 times a day.
  • If applicable, keep the prosthesis for 24 hours (even overnight). After 24hrs, it will be possible to remove the denture(s) and rinse your mouth.
Keep in your mouth for another 24hrs. Once the 48 hours have passed, it is recommended to wear the denture as little as possible.

The following days

  • After meals, gently brush the teeth, excluding the operated area and stitches.
  • Do not smoke. Nicotine can interfere with healing and it is best to abstain.
  • To rinse your mouth (two weeks after surgery), use the chlorexhidine mouthwash prescribed by your dentist (in case you have no mouthwash left), use a mixture of ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water).
  • Swelling may occur at the surgery site. It will peak over a period of 48 to 72 hours, then gradually subside over the next few days.
  • Bruising may occur. This is normal and no treatment is indicated. Everything will return to normal in about 2 weeks.
  • The stitches can be removed 2 weeks after the surgery.
During this time, the diet should be soft and you should not wear your dentures to eat.
  • After 2 weeks, a soft base is applied to the inside of your denture. It is recommended, in
the 2 weeks following the operation, to
wear your dentures as little as possible. This soft base will be changed every 3 to 4 weeks while the implants are Osseo integrating.
  • Paresthesia (numbness) of the lip, neck or chin may occur following the procedure. This symptom should disappear in the following weeks or months.

Here are the steps to follow at home

  • Floss and brush teeth with regular toothpaste.
  • Put a small drop of whitening gel in the trays for each tooth to be whitened, then leave on the teeth for 30 minutes (Poladay) for 14 applications depending on the desired result (2 times a day with a minimum of 4 hours between sessions, if there is no sensitivity).
  • Remove the trays and rinse your mouth well. If you accidentally put too much whitening gel in your mouth, your gums will become white, then red and sensitive. To relieve the pain, you can use vitamin E gel. The gums will return to normal within a few hours.
  • Rinse the gutters well with warm-cold water, never with hot water..
  • Avoid eating colored foods (tea, coffee, red wine, etc.).
However, if you do eat them, be sure to rinse your mouth with water and avoid eating them for an hour after each application.
  • Do not rinse the trays with hot water, you can use a cotton swab to clean them well.
  • Always remove the denture at bedtime, as the gums need to breathe.
  • Rinse the denture after each meal, because food can get under it.
  • To clean, use a denture brush and brush it under water.
Do not use toothpaste as it is too abrasive. It is important to maintain your dentures with the products provided for this purpose.

Insertion

  • Before putting your plate in your mouth (at home), run it under hot tap water for about 30 seconds.

Removal

  • Before removing your bite plate, rinse your mouth with warm water for about 10 seconds, then gently remove it.

Cleaning

  • You can brush your plaque with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a little toothpaste (preferably gel type, as it is less abrasive).
  • We recommend soaking your dentures in a denture cleaning solution. Such a solution is less abrasive than the cleaners sold in tablet form.
  • We also suggest an annual maintenance of your prostheses. This maintenance, performed in a clinic, consists of a soaking in an ultrasonic bath that removes plaque, tartar and stains. The dentures are then polished and shined to restore their protection and shine.

*Fees apply.

  • Never put the brace in hot water. Use lukewarm water.
  • Do not use toothpaste or denture cleaner as they are too abrasive. You can use baking soda (small cow) to clean it when removing. For optimal care, use braces cleaners. Simply soak the brace for 20 minutes in the solution, twice a week.
